How Being Fearless Is Your Biblical Right

I listened to a friend’s podcast on fearlessness and it got me fired up.  I’ve been gripped by many fears over the years and I’ve overcome many, but there’s a rising up to conquer every fear so that I’m fearless for God.  As I thought about what my friend shared and pondered the many Bible verses where God said to fear not, this phrase rose up in my heart – fearlessness is my inheritance.  Being fearless is your biblical right too.

To say I was ecstatic to hear this is an understatement!  So, I added the phrase to my affirmations…Fearlessness is my inheritance, my birthright.  I’m claiming it!

This friend also teaches that courage is good, but it’s unsustainable.  I agree.  Courage will only take us so far and it’s an unpleasant way to live.  To white knuckle our way through things – that’s unsustainable.  But to overcome and walk above fear – that is.

The True Definition of Fearlessness

I thought of Joshua 1:9 where God told Joshua to be courageous.

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous; do not be afraid nor be dismayed.  The Lord your God is with you wherever you go.  Joshua 1:9

I was perplexed at how fearlessness could be my inheritance when courage from my understanding of the dictionary definition is the ability to do something that frightens you.  In other words, doing it scared.

This is a good first step, but an unpleasant way to live.

Would we rather feel the fear and do it anyway?  Or would we prefer to conquer the fear and do it with God-confidence, joy and exhilaration?  I’ll take the latter.

So, I looked up courage in the original language.  It means to be stout, strong, bold, alert;  conquered, determined, made strong;  steadfastly minded.

I also looked up other verses on courage which use the same definition for courage.  See below.

Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD! Psalm 27:14

Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the LORD! Psalm 31:24

Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you. Deuteronomy 31:6

The Bible’s definition is the true meaning of courage – this in turn is the true definition of fearlessness!

God Empowers Us To Be Fearless

Being Fearless in Crossing a Rickety Bridge Over Water

So, when God says to fear not and be courageous, He’s saying to be stout, bold, conquered, steadfastly minded – to be fearless.  But He’s not calling us to go it alone – we can be courageous/fearless because He’s with us wherever we go.

God empowers us to be fearless.  He’s the One who exposes and uproots every lie, heals every wound, and reveals anything else that has caused fear and then enables us to live fearlessly.

This is the inheritance, the birthright of every child of God.  We’ll have to fight for it, we’ll have to overcome the lies and wounds, and it may happen as we’re in process, but it’s our right to live fearlessly.

The Podcast That Got Me Fired Up About Being Fearless

My friend Sandy Gledhill is the creator of the podcast I mentioned which is called The Fearless Revolution.  She also has a YouTube channel, course, and book covering this powerful topic which you can find here.  I haven’t read the book or done her course yet – I want to get more revelation for myself first.

I’m excited to embark on this journey toward becoming fearless.  I’m not letting fear stop me any longer.  Fearlessness in my inheritance.

How about you?  Do you have some fears you’d like to conquer so you too can live in your biblical right – your inheritance to be fearless?  If so, please share in the below comments and also consider joining my email list for continued infusions of hope.
