Renew Your Mind: An Invitation to Higher Thinking and Being
During a time of meditating on the Word a few weeks ago, the Holy Spirit impressed me with an invitation to higher thinking. I’ve been praying He’d enable me to operate with the mind of Christ and the supernatural power of a transformed mind (renew your mind) for years, but this principle continues to take on new levels of meaning.
The Invitation To Higher Thinking
The verse that started it all a few weeks ago…
You have multiplied, O LORD my God, your wondrous deeds and your thoughts toward us; none can compare with you! I will proclaim and tell of them, yet they are more than can be told. Psalm 40:5
When I read and meditated on this verse, I noticed the cross reference is to Isaiah 55:8 – let’s look at it and verse nine together below.
For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8-9 ESV
As I pondered the word thoughts, it hit me this could be the same word thoughts in Jeremiah 29:11…
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. NKJV
Or as another translation puts it, I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord.
I looked up the original language for thoughts and sure enough it’s the same word.
Renew Your Mind To Come Up To God’s Altitude
So God’s thoughts or plans are higher than ours. He wants us to bring our thoughts up to His level, His altitude. This is not just overcoming negative thought patterns – that’s part of it, but it’s thinking like He does about our identity, His plans for us which are beyond what we could ask or imagine, and seeing people as He does.
Never doubt God’s mighty power to work in you and accomplish all this. He will achieve infinitely more than your greatest request, your most unbelievable dream, and exceed your wildest imagination! He will outdo them all, for His miraculous power constantly energizes you. Ephesians 3:20 tPt
Fast forward several days later, I again thought and prayed about having the supernatural power of a transformed mind. Then I remembered the book Think Like Heaven by Bob Hazlett which I’ve had since 2016, but have barely read.
I pulled out the book and noticed one of the endorsements said this book will rewire your brain. This is exactly what I’ve been praying for. Then I noticed a quote on the back of the book…
When God says His thoughts are not your thoughts and His ways are not your ways, it is not a condemnation. It is an invitation to a life of HIGHER thinking and being. You can #ThinkLikeHeaven!
Talk about blown away. God confirmed the invitation to renew your mind (higher thinking). The result of a transformed mind is transformed being – or higher being as Bob Hazlett calls it.
Renew Your Mind For Transformation

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2 NASB
Transformed in the original language in Romans 12:2 is the word metamorphoó which means to transform. It’s the root of the English word metamorphosis. Meta means to change after being with and morphóō means changing form in keeping with inner reality. So it means transformed after being with; transfigured. It’s also the same word used in II Corinthians 3:18 and Matthew 17:2 where Jesus was transfigured – let’s look at those verses below.
And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit. II Corinthians 3:18 ESV
And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light. Matthew 17:2
So we’re transformed after being with Jesus, after beholding Him and spending time in His presence.
I believe the keys to transformation are consistent time spent in God’s presence and Word, in encountering Him, and in allowing Him to change our thinking (and healing our hearts) which results in changed being.
I’ve only scratched the surface of this new level of higher thinking, but I’m excited about the journey and the transformation that’s unfolding.
What about you? Will you accept the invitation to renew your mind – to higher thinking and being so you can walk in all God has for you?
